Corporate & Social Responsibility
We take Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR) very seriously and are committed to creating a sustainable future.
Here at Cleveland Bridge we work beyond compliance to consider how we can have a positive impact wherever we operate. Through active engagement with shareholders, customers, communities, colleagues and supply chain partners we have developed our CSR policy which encompasses our overarching principles of promoting positive relationships, preserving the environment and providing for the future. Our approach to CSR aims to integrate responsible practices into everything we do, whilst measuring our achievements through the following key areas:
Working with local communities
As an organisation we are actively involved in our local area, we work with a number of local schools to deliver improved STEM education in the region. We also work with Darlington Cares an organisation that encourages employees to positively contribute to communities through volunteering and charitable giving. Our local community is very important to us, we have been a Darlington based company for over 140 years, so our roots are very deep.
Investing in our people
The highly-skilled and experienced people who work throughout our business are the foundations of our success. We apply the same ethos in the communities where we operate, wherever they are in the world. We’re always conscious of the social impact we have on these communities and our duty to create skilled jobs for local people and enhance the local economy.
Here at Cleveland Bridge we believe in helping to empower future generations through science, technology, engineering and mathematics to help grow a dynamic, innovative economy. We participate in STEM events throughout the year supporting schools and helping students see what it would be like to have a role within engineering.
We are very active in our support of a number of chosen charities, we run a number of events throughout the year to support those charities these include sponsored runs, employee golf days, lieu day raffles to name a few. Our chosen charity for 2020 is Zoe's place, which is an independent charity offering palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants aged from birth to five years.
Cleveland Bridge plays a pivotal role within the local engineering community, assisting on projects such as restoring a footbridge for a local heritage railway or providing apprentices and support to the A1 steam locomotive trust on the construction of a new locomotive.
Created to support greater inclusivity, communication and engagement across the company, the new Engage Team provides an opportunity for every employee to contribute to key areas of business improvement and corporate social responsibility. The Engage Team broadens the horizons of Cleveland Bridge’s longstanding Employee Forum and includes project teams focused on activities including Wellbeing, Innovation, and Sports, Social & Charity.
