The Thames Barrier is the world’s largest movable flood barrier. It spans 520 metres (a third of a mile) across the Thames at Woolwich, South East London, where it protects Britain’s capital city from tidal flooding. It comprises four 61 metre and two 31 metre rising sector and four 31 metre falling radial gates with operating machinery. Cleveland Bridge supplied and erected the fabricated steel gates and installed the mechanical and hydraulic operating machinery.
