Sizewell B Reactor Liner Plate
- Year: 1992
- Location: Suffolk, England
The Sizewell B nuclear reactor is the UK’s only large pressurised water reactor and was built between 1988 and 1995. In its first ten years of operation, this reactor produced approximately 3% of the UK’s electricity and avoided the release of around 60 million tones of greenhouse gases which would otherwise have been released if fossil fuels had been used.
The construction and commissioning of the Sizewell B nuclear power station in only 78 months was an outstanding achievement for all the contractors and designers involved. Cleveland Bridge undertook a key role in this project as the main contractor for the steel liner plate to the reactor building – a non-structural protective element that had to behave as a structure during construction.
