Requirement

Fabrication and supply of 800 tonnes of plunge column steelwork, required for the successful implementation of top-down construction as part of an extension to the existing Paddington Station. CBUK’s scope also included plunge column splice and connection design, and input into the initial design development alongside the installation subcontractor, inclusive of lessons learned from Bond Street Station. 49no. plunge columns were required in total along the full length of the station plan, and unlike Bond Street Station, were designed as plate girders – CBUK were able to utilise their T & I to machine fabricate these in-line with very short lead-in and compact site delivery schedule.
