This project has transformed the Haymarket Metro Station at the top of Northumberland Street (Newcastle Upon Tyne). The existing Metro station was demolished and replaced with what is claimed to be an "architecturally stunning steel and glass dome". There will be space for shops and offices on the ground floor concourse and the three floors above.

The project required erection of an architectural roof and building structure above the station, and, in order to support this a framework of large span trusses and support columns were needed. The trusses and roof geometry created an engineering challenge to develop workable and cost effective connection details. The main support trusses and ties were erected during night-time station closures which allowed the construction of a crash deck to protect the general public from ongoing upper level works. The remaining steelwork was erected during normal daytime station operations working above a PCC crash deck.
