The Surtees Bridge was constructed to carry the new A66 road over the Tees at Stockton as the previous structure could not meet all of the engineering standards required to carry the latest 40 tonne heavy goods vehicles. It provides a wider 3-lane steel structure, 145m in length and 1,936 tonne in weight, which accommodates the slip roads to and from the South Stockton Link Road. The contract consisted of two phases with all work carried out during possessions and was opened to the public on the 3rd December 2007.
