About the project
The White Cart Viaduct is a high level multi-span crossing of the White Cart Water on the M8 Motorway, to the west of the town of Renfrew.
The viaduct, which was originally completed in 1968, is a 23-span steel/concrete composite viaduct comprising haunched cantilever river spans and anchor spans with a central suspended span over the White Cart Water.
The structure is curved in both plan and elevation with Cleveland Bridge’s work involving the strengthening and refurbishment of the steel box girders. This required the addition of internal and external plating and stiffening to the existing structure and the provision of new access hatches.
