About the project
The Scotswood Bridge is one of the main bridges crossing the River Tyne in North East England. It links Newcastle upon Type with Gateshead. The first bridge across the river was a suspension bridge with two stone towers but was replaced in 1964 by the box girder bridge seen today. The construction was complete early in 1967 and was opened by Alderman Peter Renwick the Lord Mayor of Newcastle at the time.
