About the project
Cleveland Bridge were involved in both the design and construction of Newark Dyke Bridge; the first rail bridge in the UK constructed for 140mph trains. The contract included the removal of the two bridges previously in place, and the installation of a new bridge in a single 72 hour rail possession.
Prior to this 72 hour rail possession, a 77m span new bridge (consisting of steel superstructure, concrete deck, ballast and track) was constructed on temporary steelwork adjacent to the existing bridge, weighing approximately 2,500 tonnes. To facilitate the removal of the existing bridges and the installation of its replacement, temporary slide tracks were designed and erected during the aforementioned possession period.
