About the project
The Menai Bridge is a suspension bridge designed by Thomas Telford, located on the picturesque island of Anglesey, North Wales. It was the first modern suspension bridge in the world. With its eight arches and one main span its stands at 417m in length and 12m wide. The bridge was opened to much fanfare on 30th January 1826, reducing the journey time from London to Holyhead from 36 to 27 hours.
