Kessock Bridge

Project Completed: 1982

About the project

The Kessock bridge carries the A9 dual carriageway over the tidal water of the Beauly Firth, between Inverness and the Black Isle at North Kessock. At the time of construction, this kilometre-long structure was the largest cable-stayed bridge in Europe and the only bridge of its type in Britain.

Spanning 240m and supported by groups of eight spiral-strand steel cables, this iconic structure was designed by Dr Helmut Homberg in association with Cleveland Bridge & Engineering for the Scottish Development Department.
