About the project
The East Midlands Gateway project is a 700-acre logistics park development, located adjacent to East Midlands Airport. It will be served by the new A6 Kegworth Bypass, which will join the A453 to the east of the airport via a new bridge over the M1. An experienced bridge builder was required to fabricate and install this new bridge over one of the UK’s busiest motorways.
Cleveland Bridge were chosen by Buckingham Group to fabricate, deliver, assemble and install the bridge over the M1.
The bridge comprised four sets of paired girders, fabricated from weathering steel. The bridge span is approximately 50m, and the completed steel structure weighs approximately 330 tonnes. With concrete slabs added, the total bridge deck weight is circa 1250 tonnes.
