Broadgate Plaza

Project Completed: 2000

About the project

This project formed part of the City of London’s office development, comprising a steel and concrete raft over the neck of Liverpool Street station. In total Cleveland Bridge erected 4,200 tonnes of bolted plate girders, 2.4m deep with a plan area of 8000 square metres covered (as well as crossing eighteen railway lines) to provide the foundation for this 13 storey development scheme.

CBUK were the specialist Trade Contractor for Broadgate Plaza and were responsible for the detailed design, manufacture and installation of the structural steelwork and pre-cast concrete slabs. They were also responsible for temporary works design and installation to allow erection using large mobile cranes.

The site was surrounded by main thoroughfares in the City of London and there were no locations for adequate site storage. As a result, components were stored off site with transport restricted to evening and weekends. The majority of erection work was carried out during rail possessions causing no disruption to the daily running of the busy Liverpool Street Station, with alterations made to overhead cable support gantries.
