Cleveland Bridge UK Ltd has been named as Manufacturer of the Year at the North East Business Awards.

The Darlington-based company was recognised for the positive development of its operations, most notably its commitment to investing in its workforce, investing in its facilities and improving working practices and efficiencies.

Judges also praised the efforts of the company to create a more sustainable business in challenging market conditions, acknowledging it for its strategy to support the development of its future workforce through its training provision. The company provides apprenticeship, graduate training and a range of personal development opportunities for its staff.

Its apprenticeship programme is essential to ensuring Cleveland Bridge maintains its contribution to regional and national manufacturing excellence. Currently the company has more than 20 apprentices on its programme with a further 10 due to be recruited in the near future.

The North East Business Awards is regarded as one of the most prestigious events in the region, and recognises business excellence from companies operating across the North East.

Cleveland Bridge will now go on to compete against other manufacturers from the region in the grand final of the North East Business Awards, which takes place next month.

Chris Droogan, Managing Director of Cleveland Bridge UK, said: “Winning this prestigious award is an endorsement of the high quality workforce we have at Cleveland Bridge who’s dedication, innovation, creativity and skills has helped the company grow and maintain its long-standing and highly-valuable global reputation.

“It is also an acknowledgement of the high standard of manufacturing that exists in the North East and the talented people from the region that deliver complex and impressive projects for UK and international markets. This includes an important commitment to apprenticeships, which are an essential part of ensuring that this region continues to have a strong manufacturing sector.”
