Cleveland Bridge has been at the forefront of off-site manufacture for a number of years. We are committed to reducing the levels of uncertainty found on any complex infrastructure project. In order to achieve this, we apply best practice lean manufacturing techniques, all our operational staff have been trained in the benefits of lean. These lean principles have enabled everyone to get involved in identifying and implementing efficiency improvements throughout the production process. These ongoing incremental improvements have helped to reduce costs, save time and resources and, ultimately, improved the quality of the solution we can offer our customers.

We also lead the way in trial assemblies, offering all our customers a range of trial assembly options, which range from a full trial erected structure to paired girders. On our main operational site in Darlington we have over 25 acres of land to trial erect structures ahead of actual site assembly.

Health and safety

The health, wellbeing and happiness of our people are central to our success. Our people are empowered to challenge unsafe behaviours and take action to improve safety. We have a dedicated health and safety manager in our factory and on every site where we work.


To improve cost efficiencies, we invested in increased automation in our manufacturing plant, improving material handling efficiency by 20%. Applying lean manufacturing practices has helped to improve quality profitability and introduce continuous improvement capabilities.

BIM/TEKLA modelling

We use building information modelling (BIM) with advanced TEKLA 3D software to generate complete digital representations of steel frameworks and structures. Our experienced design and engineering teams can assess and confirm all aspects of general arrangements, fabrication, component drawings and Strumis CNC files for material handling and automatic cutting or drilling.

May I pass on my thanks and appreciation for the works completed to date on CBUK's contracted works on the LEB project. I have been impressed by the thorough and professional behaviours of staff both during the offsite fabrication phase and the onsite assembly of the new bridge structure.
