Looking after our people every day
The health, wellbeing and happiness of our people are central to our success. For example our factory shift patterns and flexible working hours allow our people to achieve a healthy work-life balance, also we have introduced part-time working for retired employees, as a way to retain their skills and enable them to share their vast experience.
Training and development
People are the real differentiators at Cleveland Bridge, which is why we invest so heavily in training, recruitment and retention — and why we have doubled our training budget every year since 2015. We have recently launched our STEPS programme aimed at identifying future potential within our business and providing them with a development plan to help them maximise their capabilities.
Our award-winning apprenticeship programme offers training for careers in engineering, operations, maintenance, IT, procurement, business development and many other trades. We offer higher level and graduate apprenticeships too, as well as a graduate scheme for university leavers.
As a 140-year-old business at the heart of Darlington’s development, Cleveland Bridge is integral to the town’s history and identity. We build on this legacy every day through close links with local schools, colleges, universities, charities and businesses. We attend careers events, run workshops, promote engineering careers and provide inspiration and opportunities for young people in the region.
Our investment in training and career development extends well beyond the early career stages. Our talent identification programme enables people to create personal development plans that focus on their strengths and ambitions. We support career growth through continuous professional development, and provide training that leads to chartered status in range of professions.
Putting sustainability into practice
Cleveland Bridge is leading the way in the construction industry by incorporating sustainable thinking into the way we manage and operate our business. For us, sustainability goes beyond taking care of the environment; it means creating a robust, profitable, sustainable business for future generations.
