CLEVELAND BRIDGE WINS A66
SURTEES BRIDGE REPLACEMENT CONTRACT
FROM HIGHWAYS AGENCY
Cleveland
Bridge, the UK’s leading bridge design, fabrication and construction
company, has secured the contract for the supply, fabrication and erection
of a replacement plate girder bridge on the A66 dual carriageway over the River
Tees. The £3.3 million
contract, awarded by the Highways Agency through main contractor Edmund
Nuttall, with whom Cleveland Bridge worked during the Tinsley Viaduct
replacement project, will commence immediately with the first phase to be
completed by August this year.
Commenting
on the contract award Cleveland Bridge Managing Director, Brian Rogan said:
“Having completed 10 similar projects over the past four years our
expertise in bridge construction contributed to our winning this very
exciting contract. Undertaking
the erection with the bridge remaining fully functional throughout the 48
week programme of works will require strong project management and smart
engineering”.
Mr
Rogan continued: “The job is scheduled to be carried out in two
phases. The first is to erect
most of the southern part of the bridge. The second phase, to be completed
by March 2007, is to finish the southern part and the whole of the northern
part of the bridge. Erection
will be carried out in seven separate phases of eleven hour
possessions. The phased
programme is designed to ensure that the bridge can remain open, with
traffic management procedures in place which will keep traffic flowing on
the opposite side of the bridge to the work being carried out.
“I am
delighted for the dedicated team at Cleveland Bridge that we have secured
this contract win. Considering
this contract has similar tonnage (1,836 te) to that of the Paddington job
we have been undertaking with Hochtief and is a continuation of the
excellent relationship we have with Edmund Nuttall, I am convinced that
this is just the first of a number of contracts that will be coming our way
this summer.”
