Cleveland Bridge UK’s Tinsley Viaduct Strengthening project continues its award winning ways

NEWS RELEASE

Following on from Cleveland Bridge UK’s success in the Working Well Together campaign where they, along with their partner on the project Edmund Nuttall Limited, were runner-up in the Competency Category, the Tinsley Viaduct Strengthening project has received two more honours.

Firstly, it was a finalist in the Quality in Construction Innovation Award for the innovative use of 3D scanning to achieve tolerances below 0.25mm when strengthening the lower deck pier cross box diaphragm.

Secondly, it has received the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Bronze Award which recognises a very high standard of health and safety at work over the last two years.

Cleveland and their partners are strengthening the 1033m long, 20 span, double deck steel box girder viaduct to bring it in line with an EU directive on lorry weights. All structures supporting main roads are now required to be capable of carrying a 40 tonne vehicle weight limit.  Currently the 32-year-old bridge is restricted to four lanes. The strengthening works will allow this to increase to six.
