Moving Bridges

The design and construction of moving bridges is a logical extension of the mainstream business of Cleveland Bridge: they are almost invariably built in steel and require mechanisms for moving and controlling large objects and heavy loads - a regular part of bridge building.

Breydon Bridge, England

Cleveland Bridge and Dorman Long have over a hundred years experience of providing moving spans for major crossings including lifting, bascule, swing and transporter bridges. In the seventies ro/ro ramps were provided for several UK ports. Although the demand for such structures is more limited today, and for more specialised functions, Cleveland Bridge continues to offer a comprehensive service to clients for moving bridges of all forms.

The in-house design team undertakes complete designs, alternatives, and value engineering for the overall concept and structure: detailed mechanical, hydraulic and electrical design is sublet with the supply of the machinery to suitably experienced sub-contractors.

In our experience the comprehensive service is most effective, particularly in the normal short time-scale, when we work directly for the client as main contractor.
